Gladstone (Pop 63,455) was actually first visited by Captain Cook in 1770 but it was Flinders who established the first habitation there.
Gladstone has three major islands close to it: Quoin, Facing and Curtis. You can catch the family run Curtis Car Ferry to all three islands from Gladstone Marina and back in just 2.5 hours. The car ferry is modern with indoor and outdoor seating as well as an open top deck with great views high above the water line.
The day was good in that there was not excessive sun, lots of odd-shaped and coloured clouds making for some great shots as you will see below. Quoin Island access is by invitation only since it house a Green Turtle Research Sanctuary dedicated to the preservation of this most popular little animal. Facing has about 1,000 permanent residents as is relatively flat, green with mainly mangroves and small bushes. It is populated enough to have only one pub. Curtis is huge with up to 3,000 residents and extends many kilometres north and very close to the mainland.
Enjoy the shots of this tri-island trip…
